In this podcast episode, I talk to Australian surface pattern designer and illustrator Sheree Coleman.
I first met Sheree at a design college where she was a student of mine studying a diploma in surface patent design.
Sheree has always loved being creative and from a young age always had creative projects on go.
In her adult years, she developed a love for painting and cut and paste collage which you can see has been a huge influence on her work now. After coming across another surface pattern designer’s account on Instagram she became interested in exploring surface pattern design which is where our paths crossed.
We talk about the importance of creating a design practice and how Sheree’s grown as a designer and Illustrator from her commitment to having a daily practice as well as how she’s embraced stepping up and showing her work.
She shares with us how she is transitioning away from full-time work to building her brand Whimsy Kaleidoscope. We discuss how she got started, what led her to surface pattern design, how she gets clients and tips she has for other aspiring designers.
Sheree has put in the hard work and it’s now paying off, so you won’t want to miss this conversation.
